SOLAR PANELS FAQs
You may have a number of questions on your mind about solar panels. By investing in solar panels you can enjoy lower gas and/or electricity bills for many years. Here are some of the commonly asked questions about the solar panels.
Why do I need to consider solar panels?
Remember, sunlight is free! A Solar panel system will save you a lot of money over time. Each Solar panel is essentially maintenance free, and therefore worry free. No fuel is needed for a solar panel to run. This means that you are saving money and preserving the environment at the same time.
When the sun goes down, does that mean there will be no hot water/ electricity?
Anyone considering solar power wonders what happens at night or when the sun isn’t shining. Solar panels obviously get energy from the sun, however it is important to understand that only daylight (i.e. anytime other than night) is required rather than bright direct sunlight for them to operate. Solar hot water panels produce hot water all day long and use a special hot water tank which means you’ll not only have as much hot water as you have with your existing system, you’ll actually have more!
Most solar electric panels are what is known as Grid-Tie systems. When your solar panels produce more electricity than you are currently using this is fed back into the national grid. When your solar panel system is producing less electricity than your household is currently using then electricity is drawn back from the gird. Come rain or shine, sleet or snow, solar panels will bring the sun’s energy to your home.

How many/what size of solar panel do I need?
The size of solar panel will depend on your electricity and/or hot water heating needs. Big houses commonly need more solar panels to provide ample hot water and/or electricity whereas smaller homes will require fewer panels. We will assess your current usage and advise you on the most appropriate size of system for your home.
